TransCare Queer Ambassadors: Studentship

iHEAR and TransCare introduces the TransCare Queer Ambassador (QA) Studentship. While colleges and campus spaces offer many individuals an outlet to learn, grow, and critically engage with their peers, certain communities are often marginalized, preventing them from fully taking advantage of resources when compared to their more privileged peers. The LGBTQIA+ community is one such marginalized group in which members tend to be ostracized and discriminated against. It is incredibly important for the LGBTQIA+ community to feel safe and welcome amongst their peers, for them to succeed mentally and academically. The Queer Ambassador studentship intends to work with students to increase LGBTQIA+ inclusivity across health and allied professional college campuses in India.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • UG or PG students (including interns) who are not completing their course prior to March 2023
  • Enrolled in a health and allied professional campus in India, completing courses such as MBBS, Nursing, Dentistry, Paramedical courses, MPH, etc.
  • Support from faculty member or dean at the respective college
  • Individuals who aspire to develop leadership skills

Application Process:

Stage 1: Fill the application form with information about yourself, college and course, contact details, and short essay (250 words) about why and how you will be a Queer Ambassador

Stage 2: Shortlisted applicants will be selected for an interview and subsequently guided by the iHEAR team to develop a more detailed proposal on what they will do as a Queer Ambassador. Shortlisted applicants will also be requested and helped with obtaining support from a faculty member who can support the student through the process
