The broad vision of this project was to develop and sustain a core program in the state of Goa, India, to support Sangath’s work on promoting youth health in Goa and other parts of the country. In particular, we sought to promote the health and well-being of young people through the development and evaluation of school health promotions and its scaling-up in the Goa and facilitated the development and evaluation of school health promotion interventions in partnership with other institutions in India.
The specific objectives of the project are:
Pilot Intervention:Â The pilot intervention was delivered in 15 rural, coastal, government and government aided schools in north and south Goa. The intervention worked across three levels and was delivered by school health counselor appointed in these schools through the project.
Documentation of Case Studies: Case studies of four school health promotion programmes were conducted to evaluate the intervention’s effectiveness. The four case studies of Prayatna in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Rajasthan, and Ritinjali in Rajasthan were documented, SHAPE and Udaan in Jharkhand. The case studies addressed the acceptability, feasibility and impact of various types of school health promotion programmes in India. Capacity building:Â We hosted the annual Development And Evaluation of Complex Health Care Interventions for 4 years. Participants were provided with an overview of the nature of complex health care interventions and the steps involved in designing and evaluating these treatments.
Complex Interventions course: This course was designed to provide participants a framework for understanding the issues involved in developing and evaluating complex health care. It was implemented by Sangath in for five  years in collaboration with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the Society for Education Action and Research in Community Health (SEARCH) and the South Asia Network for Chronic Disease (SANCD).
