TELE-COUNSELLING FAQs

Yes, there is no charge to avail this service. Additionally, ours's is a toll-free number so you will not be charged for the call you make to us either.

When you speak to one of our counsellors, you are guaranteed a safe, empathetic, and non-judgmental space to discuss your problems. You can also have a completely anonymous session; any information you wish to share is your choice and will remain confidential on our end. If our counsellors or you feel that additional support is required, we provide up to 6 additional free sessions

If you have already availed of a tele-counselling session and wish to avail of continued mental health support, you may call back into the tele-counselling services and inform the counsellor. The counsellor will then ask you a few questions regarding your progress and will share these details with the Clinical Services team where you may avail of a total of 6 free sessions after which each session is chargeable at a nominal fee of Rs. 300. These free sessions are valid for 3 months after your 1st tele-counselling sessio

You can share your thoughts and feelings, and also discuss any issues that you may be experiencing on a day-to-day basis.

Our scope of work is limited to offering mental-health related support. Our counsellors will be unable to provide financial aid or information about government/ private avenues for medical, financial, or employment-related opportunities.

The helpline is available all days of the week between 10 am and 6 pm.

We do not require you to share any personal information. You can choose what details you wish to share with us depending on your comfort. We will need a chosen name to facilitate conversation. We do record the number you call us from that enables us to call you back in case there is a need to.

We currently provide services in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Konkani.

CLINICAL SERVICES FAQs

During your first appointment which will last approximately an hour, you will meet with a clinician who will:

· Listen to your concerns and issues

· Ask questions related to your health, family, social relationships, etc.

· Ask about any medication that you are on currently or have been in the past

· Ask about your expectations from Sangath clinical services

· Refer you for counselling/therapy/psychiatric consultation with another clinician within Sangath who has experience of dealing with mental health concerns similar to what you are undergoing.

You can share your thoughts and feelings, and also discuss any issues that you may be experiencing on a day-to-day basis. It is advisable to put together a list of concerns that you’d like to share with your clinician ahead of your appointment with them.

Depending on availability of slots with each clinician, it may take a week before you are given an appointment.

We provide evidence-based psychological therapies.

Clinical Services are available on weekdays (Monday to Friday) excluding holidays, between 9:30 am and 5:30 pm.

We may request you share your health records and prescriptions. In order to understand your symptoms and challenges, we may also need you to share details of your life as per your convenience.

We currently provide services in English, Hindi and, Konkani.

Should we feel that you need psychiatric support, we will be able to connect you with another clinician within Sangath who has experience of dealing with mental health concerns similar to what you are undergoing.

You and your assigned clinician will work together to develop a treatment plan for you.

Clinical Services sessions are subsidised at INR 300 per session

You can share your preferences for a counsellor and we will be mindful of accommodating those preferences in our allocation of a clinician. Additionally, initially you will be matched with a clinician based on your concerns, however, if after the a few sessions, you feel you would like to be seen by another clinician, please let us know.

Clinical Services provides one-on-one sessions in-person or virtually.

Cancellation/postponement of a session can take place at your end or at the clinician's due to various reasons. We encourage intimation of such changes at least two days in advance. However, last minute cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances are inevitable and can be accommodated.

DONATION FAQs

Donations to Sangath are eligible for 50% tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961. This tax exemption is valid for Indian donors.

All donations will be acknowledged, and donors will receive regular communication from Sangath about its programmes and activities

Donations to Sangath are eligible for 50% tax exemption under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961. This tax exemption is valid for Indian donors. You will receive an 80G receipt via email for the amount you donate to Sangath.

Your donation will be used based on the cause you select on our donation form. You can also choose to let Sangath decide where to allocate your funds based on where it is most needed.

INTERNSHIP FAQs

If you are someone who is interested in public health, developing your research skills, or learning how to conduct quality programs in mental health care, interning at Sangath will give you incredible exposure.  There are also other internship opportunities in communications, admin and finance to accommodate the interests and backgrounds of a variety of people looking to work with Sangath.

First, it is best to have an idea of what kind of work you would like to do while here. Find the application form above, but also look up different projects in the “what we do” section of the Sangath website. You can then email Sangath for the contact details of the person leading the project(s) you are interested in, to learn more.

Usually, you will be assigned to one of Sangath’s ongoing projects. What you do within that project will depend on your learning objectives and the opportunities available during your time at Sangath. Previous work has included qualitative or quantitative data analysis, designing questionnaires or outcome tools, data extraction, contributing to systematic reviews, translation work, and helping write papers for submission to academic journals. Some past interns have even proposed and completed their own independent projects.  The list of potential tasks is as varied as the work that goes on in research.  You will also get opportunities to attend research and clinical meetings once a month and can ask to observe other activities occurring within at Sangath or in the field.

Interns are unpaid and Sangath is not able to provide any monetary aid.  However, previous interns have found ways to fund their time in Goa through fellowships, study abroad programs, and other funding sources. Check with the relevant office at your university far in advance to see if there are any opportunities you should apply for.

Yes, Sangath will charge an internship administration fee of $500, for those students who have external funding (e.g. scholarship) for their internship.

Intern (‘I’) visa is granted to international students to pursue internship in Indian register NGO’s

A foreigner who wishes to come to India for honorary work (without salary) with NGOs registered in India may be granted multiple entry Employment [‘E-4’] Visa for one year initially. The foreigners eligible for honorary work with the NGOs may be paid an honorarium upto a ceiling of Rs. 10,000 per month. The visa may be extended by FRRO / FRO concerned for a total period of 5 years from the date of issue of the initial Employment Visa, on year to year basis.

Foreign nationals granted visa for doing internship will have to register themselves with the FRRO / FRO concerned within 14 days of arrival in India if continuous stay is for more than 180 days.

Applicants who are not selected will not receive a response and that only shortlisted applicants will receive a response.
