Health Equity

We recognise the unique challenges faced by individuals from marginalised communities like disability and LGBTQIA+ when it comes to accessibility to healthcare. Stigma, prejudice, lack of understanding, physical and financial barriers to access, and lack of inclusive resources all contribute to the injustice of equal and inclusive access.

At Sangath, we are committed to advancing health equity and ensuring equal opportunities for all by empowering the communities and creating a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system for everyone.

We are trying to achieve this by bringing together academics, researchers, activists, practitioners and community representatives to conduct participatory research, advocacy and education at the intersection of marginalised identities, health access and mental health.

Our core values:

  • Understand and recognise intersectionality to shape experiences of marginalisation in healthcare
  • Promote high-quality academic research that addresses equity issues and informs evidence-based policy advocacy
  • Ensure that policies and interventions are developed in collaboration with the communities they impact
  • Advocate for policy changes that dismantle systemic barriers and improve healthcare access and outcomes for marginalised groups
  • Acknowledge lived experience as a valuable form of expertise and incorporate it into healthcare policy and practice.
