Our Work

At the core of our vision lies the pressing concern of the ‘treatment gap’ for mental health problems, especially in low-resource settings. This gap represents the stark disparity between the number of individuals with mental health problems and disorders and the limited access to vital care that can significantly enhance their quality of life.

Since our inception, we have been dedicated to creating innovative solutions that make mental healthcare more accessible and affordable for the wider community. Our work always uses a participatory approach, with early consultations with user groups and their families, healthcare providers, and community members. Together, we develop strategies that empower ordinary people and community health workers to deliver mental healthcare with proper training and expert supervision.

AREAS OF WORK

Child development

Our early work with developmental disabilities has expanded to address the needs of all children who may need support to reach their true capabilities. This has been in the form of designing universal parenting interventions while also developing digital tools which can help us detect children who are faltering in their development, allowing for early interventions. Besides this, we work at designing and evaluating specific interventions for autism, cerebral palsy and learning difficulties.

Adolescent & Youth

Being one of the largest age groups of the population, adolescents and young people are one of the priority focus groups at Sangath. We work with them and their circle of influence - peers, teachers, parents and non-specialists empowering them to care for their health. Our focus is on creating widespread awareness about their mental health, providing safe, accessible, and quality healthcare services, enabling access to reliable resources for self-help and management and creating spaces for them to open up about their lived mental health experiences and reducing stigma.

Adult

Sangath is dedicated to generating cost-effective, scalable psychosocial interventions, and high-quality scientific knowledge on adult mental health, and works extensively with communities and relevant stakeholders on reducing stigma around mental health, and encourage people to seek mental health care. We develop capacities of healthcare professionals, non-specialists, mental health professionals and educators with skills necessary to address a range of mental health challenges globally.

Health Equity

We recognise the unique challenges faced by individuals from marginalised communities like disability and LGBTQIA+ restricting equal and inclusive access to healthcare. We are committed to advancing health equity and ensuring equal opportunities for all by empowering the communities, educating relevant stakeholders , and creating a more inclusive and accessible healthcare system for everyone.
