A Scalable Programme Incorporating Early Child Development Interventions (ASPIRE), is a collaboration between Sangath, UNICEF & the Department of Women Development & Child Welfare, Government of Telangana, which aims to design, implement & evaluate an integrated Early Child Development (ECD) & nutrition intervention promoting nurturing care in the first 1000 days of life. ASPIRE has been embedded into the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme and is currently being implemented in 30 Anganwadi Centers from 3 ICDS projects in Hyderabad.
ASPIRE aims to strengthen the existing ICDS by adding novel video-based intervention content which will result in improved caregiver knowledge, a positive change in the child’s immediate home environment and improved counselling skills among community-based health workers on responsive & sensitive caregiving practices & nutrition. This would improve caregiver-child interaction, play and stimulation through opportunities of early learning, adequate nutrition & involvement of family members in all aspects of a child’s overall development & growth. Implementation supported by capacity building & routine supervision will augment the ICDS
ASPIRE aims to strengthen the public health system by building the capacity of community-based workers in delivering universal early child development interventions containing digital components focusing on the first 1000 days of life. It aims to give young children the best start to their lives, supported responsively and sensitively by caregivers and communities
